Threes Company: March 2013

Our life has been crazy the past few months. The kids are learning to talk and sign as well as how to resist. It would be doing them a disservice to say the are wild. They are CRAZY wild!!! Maggie dances, Kade clings and Larkin explores and questions (Dat?Dat?Dat?) It would be an incredibily accurate statement to say that they require 100% attention at all times. If you turn your back even for a few seconds one may disappear into another room begin the micheviousness that is being a toddler. Whether its dumping out a bag of chocolate chips on the floor, climbing into a sink and turning the water on while they are in it or unrolling the toilet paper you can bet one of the trio is into something. I would have to say that so far Larkin has been the most mischevious of the bunch. He will do something he knows he's not supposed to (Climb on the TV Stand and put his little hands on the screen for example) just to be told not to. Once you tell him no he either stops for a few seconds before doing it again or he just looks directly back at you, points his index finger in your direction and then proceeds to tell you NO! Its like he's telling you that you cant tell him what to do. There are times that it is actually very endearing but it unfortunately I believe it is a foreshadowing of what is to come. They have also learned some basic words and have a general understanding of what we are asking of them. For example, if i say "lets go upstairs" they all run to the stairs and head up. If i tell them "Lets eat" then run to their table and get ready to eat. The same can be said for bath time, nap time, night night time, taking them outside, going to the playroom, go for a ride in the car ect... However, there are also some words that they seem to think has the opposite meaning of what you are asking. For example, do not ever ask Maggie or Larkin if they would like their diaper changed. They will stop what they are doing immediately, stand up and take off running. Have you ever had to chase down and wrangle a 20 month old? Its a lot harder than you would think. I have no idea if they hate getting their diaper changed or if they just think of it as a start to a fun game of catch me if you can. Based on the giggles that you get while chasing them i tend to lean to the latter. The same thing can be said of putting clothes on them. It never fails that all three begin to think they are track stars whenever they see the clothes come out of the closet :)
